easyJet has announced an exciting opportunity for low-hour pilots to join one of their UK bases as a Second Officer on a permanent contract. This is exciting news, particularly for modular-trained pilots who have previously not been able to apply directly to easyJet post-training.
This move is likely driven by the growing shortage of commercial pilots both in the UK and globally. However, it’s also seen as a positive step forward for one of Europe’s largest airlines.
A Changing Landscape for Modular Pilots
Jet2, British Airways, and Ryanair have already set a precedent, hiring a significant number of modular-trained pilots in recent years. Many operators are beginning to recognise the dedication and strong work ethic that modular-trained pilots typically demonstrate. The post-pandemic growth of the aviation industry indicates promising prospects for aspiring pilots aiming to enter the flight deck.
easyJet’s UK operations centre on a few key ‘hubs’ including Gatwick, Bristol, Manchester and Luton so applicants must be able to reliably commute or relocate to their assigned base. Other requirements for applicants include:
- The right to live and work in the UK with unrestricted access across the easyJet network
- Valid UK CAA CPL and IR
- UK CAA Class 1 Medical
- No more than 5 ATPL exam resits
- Completed A-UPRT training
- Standard APS MCC qualification
- No more than 20 hours of remedial flight training
- Minimum ICAO Level 4 English
- Must not have attended an easyJet Assessment Centre in the last 6 months
What to Expect if Selected
Successful candidates will receive a permanent contract, flying the A320 family of aircraft upon completion of a self-funded A320 type rating. In addition to career progression opportunities, easyJet offers a generous leave allowance and discounted staff travel.
