ATPL(A) – Airline Transport Pilot Licence (Aeroplanes)

ATPL(A) – Airline Transport Pilot Licence (Aeroplanes)

What is it?

The ATPL(A) is the theoretical knowledge training required for aspiring airline pilots flying fixed-wing aircraft. 

Requirements for our theory course:

  • Minimum age 17 (Minimum age to hold a PPL)
  • Private Pilot Licence (PPL(A))
  • Sufficient English and Maths skills – roughly GCSE level

Use of Licence:
Once combined with the necessary flight experience(Training) and skill tests, this qualifies you to operate as a co-pilot in commercial air transport and eventually as a captain. An ATPL licence allows the holder to fly aircraft weighing over 5.7 tonnes and carrying 9 passengers or more. The ATPL course also meets the theoretical requirements for an Instrument Rating.

ATPL(H) – Airline Transport Pilot Licence (Helicopters)

What is it?
The ATPL (H) course is for pilots aiming for commercial helicopter employment and allows pilots to fly as part of a multi-pilot crew. 

Requirements for our theory course:

  • Minimum age 18
  • PPL(H)
  • Good knowledge of English and Maths

Use of Licence:
Enables you to act as co-pilot (and eventually captain) of helicopters used in commercial operations.  An ATPL licence allows the holder to fly aircraft weighing over 5.7 tonnes and carrying 9 passengers or more, such as those used in Search and Rescue or Offshore operations. The ATPL course also meets the theoretical requirements for an Instrument Rating.

CPL(A) – Commercial Pilot Licence (Aeroplanes)

What is it?
The CPL (A) course is for pilots aiming to fly commercially in aircraft weighing less than 5.7 tonnes and carrying 9 passengers or less. 

Requirements for our theory course:

  • PPL(A)
  • Good Understanding of English and Maths

Use of Licence:
Allows you to fly aircraft for remuneration within the limits of the licence (e.g., instructing, surveying, or charter operations).

Use of Licence:
Allows non-commercial flying for personal use or as a stepping stone to more advanced licences. Regulatory requirement for pilots commencing modular CPL or ATPL training.

What is it?
Theoretical training for recreational helicopter flying.

Requirements for our computer-based training:

Use of Licence:
Permits recreational, non-commercial helicopter flying. Regulatory requirement for pilots commencing modular CPL or ATPL training.

IR – Instrument Rating

What is it?
Training for flying aircraft solely by reference to instruments, such as during poor weather or at night.

Requirements for our theory course:

  • CPL or PPL with night rating
  • Good standard of English and Maths

Use of Licence:
Essential for flying under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR), especially in commercial aviation.

BIR – Basic Instrument Rating

What is it?
A simplified IR for general aviation pilots flying in IMC. Only available for EASA licence holders.

Requirements:

  • EASA PPL or CPL
  • Theoretical and practical training modules

Use of Licence:
Suitable for general aviation pilots looking to fly in marginal weather without pursuing a full IR.

What is it?
Theory training for pilots with existing licences converting from (A) to (H) or vice versa.

Requirements:

  • Existing CPL or ATPL licence

What is it?
